Player Safety- PLEASE READ

Written by: West Raleigh
Friday, April 18, 2014

Most of you by now have heard about the terrible incident in Wilmington where an 11 year old that was pitching BP, hit by a ball and died from it. Effective immediately:

  • No child under the age of 16 is permitted to throw BP (no exceptions)
  • Anyone swinging a bat, whether BP, soft-toss, tee, etc. must wear a helmet
  • Any player throwing soft toss, helping with tee practice or otherwise around kids swinging bats must wear a helmet
  • BP, soft-toss and tee practice are only permitted is designated areas; bats are not to be swung anywhere else except at the plate and on deck (and those swinging on deck must be careful as well)

Nothing is worth risking the safety of our kids. Please be extra vigilant in enforcing these rules.

Parents and coaches, if you and your players can help us lay straw and clean up around the newly paved cement, please contact us at wrbaseball.reg@gmail.com. We have a few other small projects around the facility that could also use a few extra hands, both small and large. Thanks.

WR Volunteer and Fundraising

Written by: West Raleigh
Sunday, April 6, 2014

WR is only as good as its people. We are a non-profit. We receive no government subsidies. We run this league and maintain the fields and facilities almost solely with volunteers. When you count up the Board of Directors, Baseball Committee, head coaches, assistant coaches and team parents, we have about 230 volunteers serving 516 kids. It’s really quite amazing. It’s also the reason West Raleigh is so successful on the field.

The Volunteer Committee ha some very enthusiastic people helping with all our planned events and ongoing fundraisers. If you missed the meeting, but can help in any way with any of the following, please email us at wrbaseball.reg@gmail.com:

  • Duke Children's Hospital meal and gift deliveries
  • Urban Ministries Food Drive, May 1-4
  • Vs. Cancer, May 10
  • Miracle League , Saturday, May 31st,12-3:45pm
  • Annual Gala in January 2015, good planners are needed

Please help a little or a lot, and thank you for any time you can spare.
